Pret’i Wowo (literal translation: pupil of the eye, the best translation apple of the eye). Definitely not a plant or flower. Although it could have been. It's a term of endearment in Papiamentu. Something you say to express your profound love to someone or for something. The glossy black details on this Bonaire bracelet are symbolic of that heart-warming and beautiful expression. This bracelet is designed to look like an heirloom piece passed down through at least 4 generations of beloved women. Wear this stunner solo or layer it with other fine bracelets.

A revelation worth sharing: Pret’i wowo almost didn’t make it to the Paraiso Collection. Initially, it just didn’t make sense for me personally to include black in such a colorful collection, inspired by plants and flowers. Even though the necklace and bracelets were aesthetically pleasing, they felt like outsiders. I tried to reason the designs away by telling myself that black is not even a color technically and that there are no black flowers, at least not on the islands. Every time I looked at them, though, I had to think about the expression ‘Pret’i Wowo’ and I would feel all warm and bubbly inside. Usually I get this feeling when God wants to speak, do or reveal something to me. One day, I decided to look up the origin of the expression ‘Pret’i Wowo’ on Google, which in turn led me to Psalm 17:8. I didn’t think much about it. It’s a verse I was already acquainted with. However, that night as I was dozing off I heard that sweet and gentle voice of the Holy Spirit saying: “and when it’s hurricane season, I shelter the islands with my wings”. I woke up in awe, knowing exactly what God was speaking about. He helped me connect the dots through that verse. See, ABC islands being luckily located under the hurricane belt is worldly talk. God has been the One protecting us all along. It’s because and thanks to Him that our islands hold the lowest track record with hurricanes in the Caribbean. Our islands wouldn’t be half the paradise they are today (and neither would this collection see the light of day) if it wasn’t for His love and protection. And since the Bible teaches us through Genesis 18:23-32 that it's not in God’s character to sweep away the righteous with the wicked, I can conclude that Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao are home to some of God’s highly favoured Pret’i Wowo’s. God unlocked a new way of understanding his amazing grace to me and - and through me, to you too.
